AMIATA AND THE INTERNAL HILLS

 Farm Maremma

This strip of land between the wide Maremma plain and the slopes of Mount Amiata is striking for all its diversified characteristics and its beautiful meandering in the sunny plains, rolling hills and lush forests.

Many historical remains alternate with the undulations of the green shades, from small vineyards, the intense green of the wild and pristine Mediterranean maquis, the silver of the olive trees, the yellow of sunflowers.

Nature's heritage is enriched by ancient villages, castles, fortresses, city walls surrounding each small village, joining the territory in a harmonious blend of colors and tastes of the land and the history of this rural civilization. Thousands of years ago here the Etruscans cultivated the vine and wine tradition has continued till the present day, developing into an art with the Morellino, one of the most famous wines in Italy.

Scansano and Cinigiano still live a rural way of life with the ancient rhythm and recent memories.
A lone sea of grass precedes Campagnatico, the ancient castle of the Aldobrandeschi family, feudal lords of Roccastrada.

The village, like its surroundings, is an authentic memory overlooking the wide valleys and Bruna river.

The festive Maremma landscape extends between ruins and fortified buildings up to the countries of Civitella Paganico, in the border of the province.

Each village in this part of the Maremma, has its own traditions and legends kept alive as significant expressions of their past.
